It is an exciting time to be a Democrat in Sarasota! The political character of our area is evolving so rapidly, the change is palpable.

On the Presidential level, we saw record local voter turnouts for our Primary despite Florida’s precarious position. Whichever remaining Democratic Presidential Candidate wins the nomination, he or she will shatter a political ceiling. How can we NOT be involved?

On the local level, our candidates are proudly claiming their Democratic affiliation and winning. There is no longer a resigned acceptance of minority party status and voters are “switching back” accordingly. How can we help turn Sarasota BLUE?

On a personal level, my son, a high school senior, voted for the first time in January. I am thrilled to report that he and many of his friends registered AND voted as Democrats. How do we continue and capitalize on this trend?

Today I sense an unprecedented quest for unity and cooperation from local Democratic leaders, candidates, organizations and grassroots volunteers. I intend to embrace this opportunity and hope you will join me.

Whether your political interests lie at the national, state, or local level - or you just enjoy learning about and discussing issues that impact our lives, the DCS a great place to start. We currently have over 600 members. Our luncheons are held the 2nd Saturday of each month. Here you will have the opportunity to meet with other area Democrats, hear stimulating speakers, get to know what is happening and how to become further involved in our Democratic community.
